Laszlo Zsolnai’s paper “Market Fundamentalism versus Responsible Economizing” was published in W.W. Gasparski (Ed.): Praxiological Essays. Texts and Contexts (2017. New York and London, Routledge, pp. 171–182).
In the paper Zsolnai argues that early twenty-first century capitalism is at crossroads. Ecological data indicate the unsustainable ways in which our economies are functioning. Inequality is at a record high in our societies and also globally. The legitimacy of capitalism is being questioned in many respects. The moral foundation of capitalism should be re-considered and renewed. Zsolnai suggests that business ethics and the future of capitalism are strongly connected, and that if we wish to sustain capitalism for a long time, we certainly have to create a less violent, more caring form of it.
